Mark your calendar for August 13 & 14!  This is one celebration that you do NOT want to miss! 

The UMOJA Unity Festival is held every year during the second weekend of August.  Years past, the festival has been held at Freedom Hall, but this year the festival is branching out and moving to Main St. in Johnson City, TN where the Blue Plum Festival is held every June.  Join us for on August 13 & 14, 2010 for GREAT family fun!  The amazing stilt walker, Shaka Zulu, will be coming in from New Orleans with a fantastic groups of stilt walkers, drummers, and other performers decked out in African ensemble.  Come enjoy wonderful music influenced from all around the world kicked off with a mariachi band, delicious foods, and beautiful merchandise from a variety of vendors.  Bring the kids to the "Children's Park" for fun and games.  Best of all, it is all free!  If you enjoy the Blue Plum Festival, you are going to LOVE UMOJA Unity Festival!!!

For the past 14 years an organization of outstanding citizens have hosted the regional UMOJA Unity Festival in Johnson City, TN.  The goal... Unity in the community.  This celebration of cultural diversity and unity aims to bring together people of every culture to celebrate our differences and embrace our similarities, unifying us all.  The Umoja Committee is a group of people interested in seeing the people of Johnson City/Washington County and surrounding areas in Upper East Tennessee develop a community united in every way.  Umoja has helped others learn to understand, appreciate, and respect each group's history, traditions, and contributions to our American history and to reduce violence with knowledge.  Follow this link to learn more about the UMOJA Committee.
